Interview with Pete Best

Pete _best _drive

What's your favourite Beatles song?

"Out of all of them I'd have to say 'I Saw Her Standing There'. It reminds me of our sound and my time with The Beatles.

Do you still keep in touch with Paul and Ringo?

Unfortunately not, but the door is always open!

If you could have been in any other band from the start which would it be?

I was in another band. They were called the Blackjacks and they were great!

Do you still have friends from the Hamburg days?

I keep in touch with everyone from the Hamburg days! All of them: Horst, Astrid, Klauss, Tony, Rosa. All of them.

Can you play any other instruments?

I play the guitar… badly!

Is it true you were considered the best-looking Beatle?

Well that's what some say, but it's not for me to say!

What are your plans for the Casbah Coffee Club?

That's really something you'd have to ask my brother Roag. He's the captain of that ship!

My younger brother was just telling me about the Blackjacks yesterday. He's 50, I'm 55 (will be in November). I think he knows more about Pete than he does any of the Beatles. He was quoting tracks from the Anthology album, telling me some nice info about Pete's mum Mona, etc, etc, etc. We're both huge fans. Would love to see an in-depth video interview with Pete.

Hello, Pete! I played drums at the Cavern Club last week! Sat in your spot on the stage, and played pretty well. What a great time!

Question: What is or was The Atom Beat? (In the USA, we never heard that term, back in the day.) Most drummers here believe it involves playing the kick drum forcefully on all four beast of each bar. Is that true? Is there more to it?

Hard to judge by your old recordings. They did not record drums well, back in that day. Cheers! Please let me know. Sloppy, USA

I only wish I had your talent. A life isn't defined by what you nearly was but by what and who you are. I'm guessing I'm not the only person that logs in here because you are you and we love you, man. You rock! I've heard you play live and you are great, it was an honour. I didn't enter the photo competition cos to me your face shouldn't be anywhere else but on your shoulders. They are capable shoulders.
    @ianwarren1971 Peace. Out.

    Hello, Pete!

I've always been intrigued with the paintings and murals you and the guys did when decorating the Casbah. What was it?... A rainbow, spider's web, stars, silhouette, Aztec stuff... and a beetle? Was the beetle painted before you guys came up with the name "Beatles"? Also, can you share more about the paintings and the inspiration behind picking these themes? All very esoteric if you know what I mean? Fascinating.

    Thanks...

I own a Rosetti Solid 7 guitar, same specs as the one played by Paul McCartney during The Beatles first trip to Hamburg in 1960. How could I send a photo to Mr. Best??

Thanks in advance and best wishes...
